Hi

Got a 1998 C250 TD Estate that has developed a problem on the front windscreen wiper.

When switched on, the wiper arm moves about 30mm then stops and emits a noticeable buzzing sound. I v'e manual moved the wiper through its travel arc and it will at a few points in pick up and move another 30mm or so as if its going to operate normally - but again it stops and has to be manually moved. The wiper can be returned to its parked position and the limit switch operates so that the buzzing stops.

Anybody out there hava any ideas what the cause may be, how to repair and the best place for getting spares etc

safe motoring

Do a search on slow wiper and lubricate wiper
Edit :- This may be the best link for pics (http://members.lycos.nl/mbenz/windshield_wiper.htm)

cheers for that, did you get the new motor done at MB garage or independant, also I note your address is in manchester - do you know if there are any good independant MB garages in the area

I had it done at an independent, a Bosch Service agent. The parts prices are pretty similar to MB but the labour rate is less than half that of the stealership.

My wiper made it all the way across the screen to the other side, with a tiny blip of buzzing at the half-way point, then on the way back got stuck at halfway with a buzzing noise which lasted about 10 seconds then it gave up. If moved by hand it worked fine. I think the motor is the cheapest part in the wiper area!
