View Full Version : Steering wheel offset

I have an SL AMG (new) merc and the steering wheel is slightly offset. ie when driving straight it is slightly to the left.

I have been told that this can be corrected by adjusting the front wheel (tracking?) such that the steering wheel is centred again. This would be done by putting it on the laser wheel alignment in the Merc dealership.

Does anyone have any comments on this - is this the best way (only way) of doing this. The dealer told me that they could not remove the steering wheel and relocate it slightly.

Any advice appreciated - I don;t want the car to handle any differently after this adjustment, but it is a bit annoying as it is.

I just got a E320 from the dealership second hand. I took it back because I thought it was pulling to much to the left. They told me that they are suppose to. Having 18 inch AMG alloys doesn t help. Oh and bi the way my dealership doesn t even have a laser wheel tracking machine but its on order ( not sure why they charge so much then).

Mate should come along to the GTG in March it would give you some pointers regarding issues like this.

I have the car booked in at Greenoaks, Reading, which is where the laser alignment machine is. Does anyone have any experience of them, and of having this sort of adjustment done?

Is it reasonably straightforward?

Greenoaks Reading sorted this out - seemed to be no problem. Now she is running straight and true!

On my last car (Not an MB), I had laser tracking done at a Tyre Dealer. Seems to be the standard round here. They charge about £35 if it needs doing.
