Help Please!
The Bas Asr Warning Light Is Permanently On And The Handbook Doesn't Even Indicate There Is One!!
Any Idea Wot Da Problem Might Be

The Brake switch is faulty. Not to bad ajob most w202sget through abrake switch or two!

My BAS/ASR warning light came on my 99 C200 yesterday.

I am hoping that this will not involve a trip to the dealer and would be grateful if anyone out there would tell me where the brake switch is located.

Just swapped the switch on my W210 but suppose the theory is the same.

Had to remove the trim from under the dash, to expose the switch at the top of the brake pedal. Switch is held to the brake pedal bracket and is removed by rotating it clockwise a quarter turn. It will be more obvious when you see the new switch!!

Unplug the two sets of wires, plug them into the new switch and reinsert. Good as new and no more warning lights and your cruise will work again (If fitted :D )

Hello and thanks to all the helpful folks out there.

I am planning to replacing the brake switch on my C200 99/T in the hope that it will turn off the BAS/ASR warning light that is on. Undid the half dozen screws to drop the trim under the steering wheel but am unsure what to do about the bonnet release that is fixed to it. I understand that the switch is mounted at the top of the brake pedal bracket... can you confirm please.

Very grateful for any advice and help.

leave it you can get your hand in just and remove the old one and then disconect the multi plug
i have done several c and e class without removing the bonnet release cable
i have been told its a pain
leave it honest you can do it

I had the same problem ,it also made the cruise control not work.A new switch and everything was working £10 and 10 minutes work, I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH THE LOCAL STEALERS WOULD HAVE CHARGED

Thanks for your help everyone.

The brake switch was £13 and was fitted by myself with out too much fuss and without having to remove the under dash. Just removed the screws and I could get hy hand to it.
