Hi,
I've just joined after reading many posts, so I know these questions have been asked somewhere, but I can't find the answers I need, so I appolgies in advance!
I am the new owner of a W210 E320 with comand and SAT NAV, and all very nice it is too. But the phone car kit fitted is for a Nokia 6210, (its the inside the centre arm rest type), and I would like to upgrade to the 6310i version. I know I need to change thephone module, so could someone please confirm the part number I need, so I can search ebay.de! And could someone tell me where in the arm rest the module sits, or more importantly how I get the arm rest apart to change the module!
Many thanks,
Martin

Hi & Welcome to our happy club !
The part you need is 203 820 2585 or 203 820 5185 (being the later version)
make sure your Nokia 6310i has the latest software and you will be fine. I'm not sure where the MB place is for the control unit it could be in the boot or even behind the comand unit which is where I retrofitted mine when I had the 210 - I'll try & find out .
dont forget to post pics of your car in the members gallery.
Mate, what you want for a 6310i is a nice new Nokia car kit. Simply because I know what I'm talking about when it comes to Nokia. :D If you do choose to go with Nokia, you have three choices:
1) CARK-91. This is your standard Nokia car kit to fit a range of phones including your 6310i. £61.95
2) CK-1W. This is one of two bluetooth car kits compatible with the 6310i and most other bluetooth phones, so should you upgrade to a new phone with bluetooth, this will work with the upgrade. The thing is with bluetooth car kits is that you have to buy the phone holder separately. This allows the wide range of compatability. However, if you choose to only utilize the bluetooth function (ie. Have your phone in your pocket and not bother with having it on a cradle), you don't need to buy the holder. If you do decide to go with the holder, this won't hinder your bluetooth capability, it will just allow charging the phone and somewhere to put it rather than on your person for long journeys. £71.95 + £19.95 for the Nokia MBC-1 Phone Holder.
3) CK-7W. This is the top Nokia bluetooth car kit. I installed one of these myself about 6 weeks ago and it works fantastically. It's the same as the CK-1W except for updated looks, better sound quality and compatability with the newest phones. Again, you have to buy the cradle separately, but there isn't a compatable cradle for for 6310i, so you'd only use the bluetooth function for this car kit. £76.95.
All these prices are from: www.expansys.co.uk
These guys are great, I get all mobile advice and products from there, the delivery is fast and I've never had any problems with them.
My suggestion? If you're planning on keeping your 6310i for a while, get the CK-1W along with a cradle, and when it comes the time to upgrade, get a phone that you can find a cradle that is compatable with the CK-1W. If you're planning on upgrading soon, first make sure it's Nokia, and then go with the CK-7W. Buy a cradle which matches your phone and you'll have that car kit for the remainder of the time you have your car. All you'll have to do is switch cradles each time you upgrade.
Hope this helps and good luck.

None of those kits will interface with comand though will they? If they don't then the ones you've suggested aren't really what Martin wants!

Thanks for the updates guys, I appreciate it. As mentioned I do want it to interface into the Comand. My 'normal' mobile is actually an Orange M1000 PDA, but I don't think this will hook up to the Comand system, so I thought I'd just leave the 6310i in the car as a simple solution, unless anyone can tell me how to upgrade the interface for bluetooth...........
I will be posting pictures very sortly....
Thanks,
Martin

The above is not right with Comand/6310i. You will need a new phone module. Its not a DIY job.
MB dealer will charge you about £450..
Braybrookes will charge you about £120.. and they will have the parts in stock

Hi Martin,
I have just installed the 6310i modle myself and all you have to do is change the control box, I did not have to reprogramme comand nordo any other work. I am in Essex two/three time a week (Thurrock) I have a spare unit, if you would like to give it a try.
This is the only way to keep the interface with comand.

Don't suppose you want to sell the spare unit do you? :-)
I live in Thurrock (in Chafford Hundred, near Lakeside) at the moment, nice and convenient for you to sell it... *grins*

Oooh, great - when are you next down this way?
Although having said that, I'm living at the hospital at the moment - the wife gave birth to twins yesterday, at 34 weeks but they're doing ok. I'll probably be home next Monday or Tuesday ;-)
What is the ebay auction number?
Thanks,

Hi Syspro,
Sorry for the delay I've been away. I have sold the unit, only got £60ish. The mod is very simple. All you need to do is fit the two looms(normal and optical) add the centre arm rest (if you want too) install cradle and the control unit. When it is all connected up it works automatically. If you have a cluster display MB will need to programme this. The hardest part is taking the car apart to run the cables. I have also been told that the audiocomp.de website has all the parts that are required. There are lots of people on this forum who have done this mod so if you get into trouble or have any questions this is the place for you. Good luck
