If you lift off your shift boot, surround and take out the tray (to wire to it), you may find a path from there to the under steering cable tray and get to where you need.

I can't remember whether the the path is clear without lifting off the air controls, but they are removable with a Torx 20 drive

If still no go, worst case is taking out your head unit and that would only take another 15 minutes.

Fear not about the job, MB did a damn fine job on the centre console and it goes back together without a hint (by sight or creaks) that you have ever been there
