Maybe all these box's are different, mine certainly not as above, it says and does exactly as in handbook, if in D on the display a nudge to the left drops indicator to 4 another nudge drops indicator to 3 and so on, if you nudge to the right from a lower gear it steps up one at a time untill in D, holding to the left will indicate the gear already selected by the box dropping at least one gear if you are in D at the time (road speed permitting) i.e. if the car is in second gear the indicator will show 2 and the box will be limited to auto changes between 1st and 2nd. regardless of gear selected or shown if the the lever is pushed and held to the right then D is selected
