This is normal behaviour with the tipshift gearbox, the indicator doesn't indicate the gear it's in, only the highest gear it will select i.e. if you tip once to the left it will indicate 4, this means 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th will operate automaticaly as normal but 5th won't. if you push and hold to the left for a short time the box will indicate the gear selected at the time if 5th is selected it will indicate 4, pushing to the right briefly will indicate the next gear up i.e. if you are indicating 3 it will move to 4, push and hold will put back into D. (regardless of gear indicated) The tipshift is only meant as a means of holding a lower gear say for hilly or twisty roads to prevent upward shifts that are not required allowing you to use the engine power to balance the car better through turns etc.
